THE CLASSIC
The ELKA Panther, also known as the Capri, is a classic Italian combo organ of the 60s.
The Panther produces bold, rich organ sounds and has a wide range of tonal variations (13). The Panthers 16′, 8′, 4′ Stops and Mixture voice levels are adjustable. Each note spans over three octaves, there is bass extension into grey keys and separate volume control for bass octave(s). Tone Decay adds percussive effect to Mixture voices. The Panther has powerful vibrato with speed and intensity control.

KICK
The Kick module is built for versatility, ease-of-use, and expressive fun, and relies on a powerful combination of two sound layers: sampled or synth-based. Each layer has drive and a multimode filter (ideal for blending the low end of an 808-style kick with the transient crack of an acoustic sample, for example). The combined kick is further shaped using effects, envelopes, and sequenced modulation, and can be tuned automatically to a master tune setting, avoiding bass frequency clashes.

BASS
The Bass module offers total expressive freedom with a choice of five synth engines, allowing anything from epic super saws to underground sine subs. An innovative Ducker module lets you quickly apply creative sidechain-style effects or surgical mix cuts to the level, EQ, FX sends, and insert effects parameters. Like the Kick module, Bass features a number of modulators, and all parameters can be controlled by the step sequencer.

SEQUENCER
Independent step-sequencers for Kick and Bass each offer extensive sequencing and modulation controls – far more than traditional step-sequencers. Every step allows a number of controls, such as note-on, velocity, pitch, length (for bass), and gate. But the real fun starts with the step-modulation controls. Parameter Focus lets you draw in sequence modulation for any Kick or Bass parameter (filter sweeps, for example). Step Locks then allow any number of fixed parameter values for a given sequencer step: Simply click the Lock button for that step then draw in as many settings as you like – just for that step.

EFFECTS
TRK-01 offers a range of tailored processing types and sound-shaping techniques, starting with a user-selectable insert effect for both Kick and Bass modules. Delay and Reverb sends provide key controls in a simple interface, with additional features for huge creative potential. Finally, two master inserts – a harmonic bass enhancer, followed by a saturation-capable compressor/limiter module – allow creative enhancement and performance-ready weight.

NKS / KOMPLETE KONTROL
TRK-01 integrates seamlessly with KOMPLETE KONTROL and MASCHINE for even more expressive sound-design and enhanced playability. The layout of key TRK-01 controls mirrors the hardware layout, with intelligent pre-mapping of additional controls. Light Guide keyboard mapping enables intuitive hardware-control of powerful performance features such as hot-swapping of sequencer patterns and complete module set-ups for both Kick and Bass. Meanwhile, enhanced browsing, complete with instant patch audio previews, makes finding the perfect starting point even easier.

Cycling ‘74 has released version 8 of Max and the company is calling it “the closest thing to a mind-expanding drug Max has ever had”. The visual programming language has taken on a raft of new improvements in the latest iteration, most notably the introduction of the new MC. objects. MC, we’re presuming, stands for multi-channel and Cycling ‘74 is sure it will “transform how you imagine sound design”. It makes patches with 100 channels of audio look as simple as those with a single channel. It seems MC will give you the ability to manipulate multiple audio channels and operations with fewer objects. Much of the development in version 8 has been focussing on performance. Cycling ’74 now claim that Max will launch 20 times faster on Windows than before and load patches up to four times as quick. Performance as a whole is improved, with complex UI operations being significantly more responsive. Another big update is the ability to control your patches with hardware, without the need to patch. In the new Mappings Mode, you can assign physical controls to your patch in just three steps; simply enter Mappings Mode, select a slider and then move your controller – done.

Other improvements include a new Search Sidebar which allows you access to thousands of Max examples and tutorials that ship with Max, along with results from web forums and in-depth articles.

Formed from a combination of different layering techniques, location recordings and analog processing, Letherette ran many of these samples through different dictaphones, samplers and synths. For the finishing touch some samples were then processed through his Akai Reel-to-Reel tape recorder for that added texture, retaining the added hums and noises giving it a human quality.
